There are about 168,000 Cambodians who are blind, and 80% of this blindness is due to preventable or treatable conditions. Seva has trained most of Cambodia’s ophthalmologists and continues to train more specialists to restore sight to more individuals, transforming entire communities. Seva works in the three western provinces of Siem Reap, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

Recently, a surgical eye camp was organized in Banteay Meanchey for 11 days from July 16 -27, 2012. The local eye unit team conducted 5 outreach screenings in rural communities to identify and refer cases for eye surgery. A total of 528 patients had eye examinations at the eye camps, 261 of whom were provided with surgical treatment, and 127 received medical treatment. All services were provided free of charge and transportation to and from the eye camp was provided for those too poor to pay.

Thanks to you, more Cambodians have the power of sight.

Special thanks to our Seva Cambodia team, the Banteay Meanchey Eye Unit and the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Referral Hospital.
