Get Sweaty and Give Sight!

What is Sweat for Sight?

Sweat for Sight is a multi-faceted event in support of Seva Canada, held on and around World Sight Day, which is on October 13th 2016,  the annual day of awareness of blindness and visual impairment.

Gyms, studios, clubs, teams and individuals across Canada are showing their support for eradicating preventable blindness by sweating and raising funds through individual or team goals or dedicating specialty fitness classes.

How can I get involved?

There are loads of ways to get involved at every level:

  • As a gym or studio, you can hold a specialty class around Seva's work (i.e. a blindfolded class) or donate profits from a community class
  • As a team, you can work on a challenging goal together (for example, a big hike, a long swim or a long walk) and get pledges from friends and family in support of sight
  • As an individual, you can start a fundraising page, set a sweaty goal and let your friends and family know how they can support you through social media and email

There's no limit to what you can do!

What you're raising funds for:

Seva believes that giving a blind person the power of sight is the most effective way to relieve suffering, reduce poverty and transform lives.

39 million people worldwide are blind with 90% living in the developing world struggling for life's most basic needs.

The good news:

80% of blindness is avoidable by prevention or treatment.

Just $50 and 15-minutes can restore a person's sight and change their lives for the better, allowing them to work or go to school.

31 million people could see today if they had access to surgery, glasses and medicine. When more people are able to lead healthy, productive lives, entire communities have a chance at a better future.

What's Seva Canada doing?

On World Sight Day the Seva staff will be getting sweaty too by running a half-marathon in the shape of glasses to create awareness and raise funds to restore sight!
