“Now I can see everything!”
Meet Kanha Theara, a bright, hardworking 13-year-old student from Battambang Province, Cambodia.
Kanha Theara lives with her grandmother and aunt. Life has not been easy—her parents separated when she was eight, and her mother later moved to Thailand for work, sending home what money she earned to support her family. Despite the challenges, Kanha studied hard, dreaming of one day becoming a teacher.
Six months ago, her world began to blur. She could no longer see the blackboard, struggled to read, and finally confided in her teacher. With care and understanding, her teacher moved her to the front of the class. Thankfully, Kanha Theara’s school held a screening in collaboration with the Samlot Community Eye Centre (CEC), supported by Seva Canada donors. At the screening, the results were clear: Kanha Theara needed prescription glasses.
At the CEC, just a short walk from school, the staff carefully examined her eyes, tested her vision, and prescribed her a new pair of glasses. The moment she put them on, her world came back into focus—and with it, her dreams.
“Now I can see everything,” she said with a bright smile. “I feel so happy and thankful. I want to say a big thank you to Seva Canada, to my teacher, and to the staff at the Community Eye Centre. You gave me my vision back. Now I believe my dream of becoming a teacher one day is possible.”
