This Father’s Day, we honour the quiet strength, sacrifices, and resilience of fathers like Suresh GC – a man whose love for his family shines as brightly as his newly restored vision. Suresh works as a security guard at Hotel Ayushma in Pyuthan, Nepal. Before this, he spent 12 years working in India, far from home, doing whatever it took to support his loved ones. These years were marked by hard work and separation, but also by a deep commitment to his family’s future – a commitment now shared by his own son, who works in Birganj, 12 hours away from home, to help carry that same responsibility.
Now in his later years, Suresh faces new challenges. He suffers from chronic heart disease and high blood pressure. To make matters worse, his vision began to fail. A previous eye surgery in Dang, several hours from Pyuthan, had failed to restore sight in his left eye due to a retinal issue. With one eye compromised, his ability to work and care for his family was under threat.
But Suresh didn’t give up.
One day, his manager at the hotel told him about a free, Seva Canada funded eye surgery camp happening nearby at the Pyuthan District Eye Care Centre. The manager not only granted him leave, but also helped arrange his visit; a small act of kindness that opened the door to something life-changing.
Thanks to support from Seva Canada, Seva donors, and the skilled medical team, Suresh underwent a second eye surgery – this time, successful. His vision was restored. He could see clearly again.
For Suresh, regaining his eyesight meant more than returning to work – it meant being able to see his grandson’s smile, walk confidently through his village and continue playing his quiet but powerful role as the pillar of his family.
This Father’s Day, Suresh’s story is a reminder of what it means to be a father: to work tirelessly, give selflessly, and never lose hope even when the road is long and vision fades. And it’s also a reminder of how access to compassionate care can help fathers like Suresh see not just the world around them. But a brighter future for the ones they love.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who keep going, no matter what!
