Sight and Happiness

One of the barriers to people in low-income countries face accessing care is fear of the unknown. Many have never been to a doctor and do not know what to expect and are scared. "What will they do to my eyes?" That is why outreach is so important. Our local outreach workers counsel people and explain that the care is safe and performed by highly-trained ophthalmologists and nurses. When you inform people about safe, high-quality eye care, seeking treatment becomes a lot less scary!

That they think, so at the time when you are counselling them, some of them you know when you go to the hospital the doctor will operated – In this age? Getting operated? Ah, no, I cannot. Let me die the way I am.

The doctor is safe, very good over there, so when you will be there you’ll get good treatment and you will be okay. When the person gets operated and the operation goes well and that person sees, they are really happy. When I take back those old men and women someone shouted from the car – “Oh I see! Wow it’s home! Is you my wife? Is you my kids? My gran..Oh I see! Oh my God. You know what doctor?” They do call me doctor because I’ve always been with them  - “Take a lot of chicken. Just take them, just bring to the doctor. Go and eat, you just be happy! I’m thankful I’m okay. Now I can see, now I can go to my farm, now I can see my friend, now I can do everything I want to do because I’m okay now.
