What is Sweat for Sight?

Sweat for Sight is a multi-faceted event in support of Seva Canada, held around October 10, 2019 in celebration of World Sight Day. World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness focusing on blindness and visual impairment.

Studios, gyms, individuals, and teams across Canada can show their support by holding a fitness-inspired or exercise-inspired fundraiser or dedicating a fitness class to getting sweaty and restoring sight.​

Ways to Get Involved

If you are a studio or gym:

  • Hold a by-donation class and Sweat for Sight
  • Rebrand an existing class and donate proceeds to Seva’s eye care programs

If you are an individual or team:

  1. Organize an event (hike, bike ride, etc.)
  2. Set up a fundraising page on Seva Canada’s website to raise money: http://bit.ly/2LLCPpC
  3. Let your network know what you’re doing to raise money for Seva and ask for their support

A little goes a long way! Raising just $50 can transform an adult’s life through a sight-restoring cataract surgery.

    On November 18th, The Bar Method in West Vancouver and Yaletown, will be donating $5 for every person who attends class that day in support of Sweat for Sight! Work out and do good!

    The Bar Method® is a one-hour, non-impact total body workout. Our signature technique is the most efficient way to reshape the entire body. Precise isometric exercises keep students working “in the muscle,” followed by active and passive stretching to lengthen and elongate the targeted muscles. The result is a graceful, strong dancer-like body, including sculpted arms, flat abs, a lifted seat and elongated thighs, as well as improved posture and body alignment. The fast pace of the class spikes the heart rate at different intervals to burn calories not just in the classroom, but long after. Students see remarkable results within just a few weeks.     Join BEFIT for a by-donation workout on World Sight Day, Thursday, October 10th in support of Sweat for Sight.

    Fall in love with fitness with our award winning functionally progressive fat loss workouts for all levels. BEFIT is where you receive that personal training experience at an affordable bootcamp rate. Our sessions go above and beyond what is seen in typical group training and resemble personal training workouts with the fantastic energy of a group setting being led by highly skilled performance coaches.

    On Friday Oct 11th from 7-8 pm Boomerang Pilates will be holding a by-donation class in support of Sweat for Sight. The donation class will combine breathing, movement and eye exercises to wake up our brains, connect to our senses and bring our nervous systems into harmony with our muscles. This class is appropriate for all ages, bodies and activity levels.

    Boomerang Pilates & Wellness is a small neighbourhood studio in the lovely Roncesvalles Village in Toronto. We're dedicated to providing a holistic approach to movement and health. We believe that bodies and brains thrive with a wide variety of movement, so we offer Restorative Movement, Pilates and Feldenkrais® in both group class and private instruction settings. Sometimes, just movement isn't enough!     On Saturday October 12th will be holding a 10:30am Zumba Circuit class in support of Sweat for Sight.

    The Curves workout is convenient, combining strength training and cardio activity plus stretching – all in just 30 minutes – to strengthen your whole body.     For the entire month of October every Karma Class will be dedicated to Sweat for Sight! Show your support and attend a Downward Dog Yoga Centre Karma Class from 7:15 - 8:15pm on Oct. 17, 24, and 31st **Updated**.

    Since 1997, Downward Dog Yoga Centre has been at the heart of Toronto's Yoga Community, offering yoga classes that inform all levels of practice. We offer led yoga classes, including weekly vinyasa yoga, yin yoga and restorative yoga. Downward Dog is also home to one of Toronto's longest running Mysore (self-practice) programs.

    On October 10th, all sessions will be by-donation with proceeds going to Seva Canada's Sweat for Sight event in honour of World Sight Day!

    On Saturday October 19th  **new date** Trū​ Ride will be dedicating their 12pm class with Eric to Sweat for Sight!

    Trū Ride Cycle Studio is Edmonton's very first boutique spin studio.You sweat. You ride. You groove to some good tunes. Every cycling class is lead by a qualified instructor (or as we call them, “Trū Leaders”) who will guide you through a great workout to awesome beats. Classes are 50 minutes long, with 45 min of cardio and a 5 min cool down. It's the most fun you will have on a bike, plus you get a great workout out of it.     **Updated** Join The Yoga Root for a Salsa dance class on Friday, November 1st from 5:15-6pm in support of Sweat for Sight! And thank you to everyone who joined the Monday, September 30th by-donation Hatha Flow yoga class from 6-7pm.

    We are a community-minded, independent North Vancouver Yoga studio, dedicated to getting grounded in a safe, intimate space, free from over-stimulations and distractions. During classes in small groups, the teachers guide students through poses and aim to harmonize body movement with breathing and focus of the mind. Meditation and rhythmic breathing help relieve stress and achieve deep relaxation while exercises promote good posture and flexibility. We welcome all levels of experience - whether you are new to yoga practice, out of practice or regularly practice. If you can breathe, you can do yoga!
